why aren't insurers rewarding us for stronger roofs?

Just had my roof replaced after a nasty storm last year, and I decided to go the extra mile and get one of those supposedly "storm-proof" roofs. Cost me a pretty penny, but figured it'd be worth it in the long run, you know? Anyway, I called up my insurance company thinking they'd be thrilled—maybe even give me a discount or something since I'm less likely to file a claim now. Nope. Nada. Zilch.

I mean, isn't it common sense that if homeowners invest in better, sturdier roofs, insurance companies would save money on claims? Seems like a win-win to me. But apparently, logic doesn't apply here. I'm honestly kinda frustrated about it. Feels like I'm being penalized for doing the responsible thing.

Curious if anyone else has run into this issue or if your insurer actually rewards you for making your home more disaster-resistant.

Yeah, insurance logic can be pretty baffling sometimes. I remember inspecting a house last year where the owner had installed these super high-end hurricane clips and reinforced shingles—basically a fortress of a roof. He proudly showed me the receipts, thinking he'd get some sweet discount from his insurer. Nope, same story as yours. Seems like insurers would rather roll the dice than reward proactive homeowners... go figure.

- Yeah, insurers can be weirdly shortsighted about this stuff.
- Problem is, their math's all based on averages and huge data sets—not individual efforts.
- Still, you'd think they'd toss a bone to folks who actually save them money long-term... but nope, logic strikes again.
