Sometimes I try to hang too much and end up catching the loop on door handles or pipes.
That’s the story of my life, honestly. I’ve had my tape measure go flying more than once because I overloaded the loop. One thing I started doing is clipping a small notepad and pencil there—super handy for jotting down meter readings or quick notes when I’m running around the building. But yeah, anything fragile or expensive stays in my pockets now. The loop’s great, but it’s got its limits.
- I get the appeal of hanging a notepad there, but for me, it’s more hassle than it’s worth.

Totally agree—mine catches on everything if I put anything bulkier than a hammer or small wrench.“The loop’s great, but it’s got its limits.”
- Tried using the loop for my phone once (bad idea). Nearly lost it in the crawlspace.
- Personally, I just stick to the classic hammer or sometimes a flashlight. Anything else ends up slowing me down or getting knocked off.
- Maybe I’m just clumsy, but pockets feel safer for most stuff.

That’s about right. I’ve tried clipping a tape measure to the loop, but it just banged around and got caught on door frames—ended up more annoying than helpful. Has anyone found a way to keep stuff secure in the loop, or is it really just for hammers and maybe a flashlight at best? I keep thinking there’s some clever hack out there, but I haven’t seen one that actually works in practice.

Funny, I’ve had the opposite luck with the loop sometimes. I actually use it for my work gloves—just tuck one glove through and they stay put unless I’m crawling around. Tape measures, yeah, those are a pain in the loop. But I’ve also slipped a small pry bar in there, and as long as you’re not running or climbing ladders, it doesn’t bounce around too much. Maybe depends on the belt or what you’re doing?
I hear you on the tape measure—mine always manages to slip out or get caught when I’m squeezing through crawlspaces. The glove trick sounds handy, though. I’ve mostly stuck with the loop for my inspection mirror, but that only works if I remember to grab it before heading up an attic hatch. Curious if anyone’s found a way to keep smaller stuff from sliding out? Or is it just trial and error depending on the tool?
