Tried hanging my inspection mirror from the hammer loop once—great until I forgot about it and smacked it into a crawlspace beam. Now I just stick with the carabiner for tape measures or keys, way less drama. Anyone ever try carrying a moisture meter there? Wondering if it’s more convenient or just another knee hazard waiting to happen...

Tried the moisture meter on the hammer loop once, but honestly, it just kept banging into my knee every time I crouched. Maybe depends on the style of meter, but mine's bulky and awkward. Ended up sticking it in a cargo pocket—less hassle, even if it takes a second longer to grab. For me, anything heavier than keys or a tape just turns into a nuisance on that loop. Anyone else find a better way?

Never had much luck with the hammer loop for anything but, well, a hammer. Tried clipping my utility knife there once and it just kept catching on stuff—felt like a snag hazard more than anything. Maybe it’s just me, but I find cargo pockets way more practical for odd-shaped tools. Has anyone actually found a tool that rides comfortably on the loop besides a hammer or tape? Or is it just one of those things that sounds useful but isn’t in real life?

Tried hanging a pry bar from the loop once—thought it’d be handy, but it swung around and smacked my knee every time I crouched. Gave up on that real quick. Honestly, outside of a hammer, I just end up using the loop for gloves or a rag if I’m in a pinch. Cargo pockets or a tool pouch seem way less annoying for anything else. Maybe there’s some magical tool that fits, but I haven’t found it yet.

I get where you’re coming from. I tried to get creative with that hammer loop when I first started tackling projects around the house. Thought maybe it’d be good for my big flashlight during attic work—nope, just kept banging into stuff or falling out. Same story with a small crowbar, which ended up catching on a fence panel and nearly yanking my pants down. Not exactly the “hands-free convenience” I had in mind.

I do see the appeal of having quick access to something, but honestly, unless it’s an actual hammer, it’s more trouble than it’s worth. Even then, half the time I’m crawling under something or climbing a ladder and the hammer just gets in the way. I’ve mostly switched to using a tool belt with dedicated pouches and pockets. Way more practical for things like tape measures, utility knives, or even screws.

The glove trick is about the only “hack” that’s stuck for me—just loop them through when my hands are sweaty or I need to grab something quick. Rags too, if I’m painting or staining outside. But as far as some secret tool that fits perfectly? Haven’t found it yet either.

Maybe there’s some old-school carpenter out there who swears by hanging everything off that loop, but for me it’s just not worth the bruised knees and awkward bending. If anyone’s actually found a clever use that doesn’t involve pain or losing tools in the grass, I’d be genuinely surprised.

At this point, I’m convinced those loops are just there because they’ve always been there—not because they’re actually useful for most of us.
