- Tried a small pouch for nails once—just ended up banging against my leg every step.
- Even with a tight clip, it still shifted around when I climbed ladders or crouched.
- Only thing that really works for me is keeping it super light, like just some chalk or a roll of tape.
- Has anyone found a way to actually secure a pouch so it doesn’t flop everywhere? Maybe some kind of strap or extra loop?

I totally get what you mean about the pouch swinging around. I tried hanging a little screw pouch from my hammer loop when I was putting up shelves in the garage, and it drove me nuts—kept smacking my knee every time I moved. Ended up just tossing the nails in my hoodie pocket instead, which wasn’t much better but at least didn’t bruise my leg.

Honestly, I haven’t found a perfect fix either. I did see someone online rig up a little Velcro strap around their thigh to keep the pouch from flopping, but that seemed like more hassle than it was worth for me. Maybe if you’re working up on a ladder all day it’d be worth trying? For quick jobs, I just keep it light like you said—tape, pencil, maybe a couple screws.

It’s kind of reassuring to hear I’m not the only one annoyed by this. Sometimes I wonder if those hammer loops are just for show... or maybe I’m missing some secret trick.

- Totally get the frustration. Tried to hang a water bottle from my loop once—nearly took myself out on a ladder, so you’re not alone.
- I just use mine for tape or a rag most days. Anything heavier and it’s like having a wrecking ball attached to your hip.
- That Velcro thigh strap thing? Looks clever, but feels like overkill unless you’re hauling gear all day.
- Honestly, half the time I think those loops are just there to make us feel like we know what we’re doing... but hey, at least they’re good for holding a sandwich during lunch.

- Used mine to hang a caulk gun—works better than I expected, but yeah, anything heavier and it’s just annoying.
- On green jobs, I’ll clip a moisture meter there for quick checks.
- Never tried the sandwich trick, but now I’m tempted...
- Those thigh straps? Only worth it if you’re carrying tools up and down all day, otherwise they just get in the way.

I actually find the thigh straps more useful than expected, especially when I’m working on a steep pitch or moving around solar panels. They keep the hammer loop from swinging out and catching on stuff—or worse, smacking a panel. It’s a hassle to clip them every time, but for green roof installs with lots of movement, I’d rather deal with the straps than risk dropping a tool. Just my two cents...
