Yeah, I’ve had the same problem—anything lighter than a hammer just swings around like it’s got a mind of its own. Here’s what I do when I’m feeling cheap: I’ll wrap a bit of duct tape around the handle of whatever tool or bottle, just enough to make it thick, then wedge it in the loop. Not perfect, but it keeps stuff from flying off. Still, half the time I end up tossing everything in a five-gallon bucket anyway... easier on my patience and my shins.

I hear you on the five-gallon bucket—mine’s basically glued to my hip these days. Tried the duct tape trick too, but I kept losing my screwdriver in the grass anyway. Honestly, the only thing that’s ever stayed put in my hammer loop is a hammer.

I get what you mean—hammer loop’s supposed to be handy, but half the time I end up fishing for whatever I stuck in there. I’ve tried wedging a pry bar or even a small flashlight in mine, but unless it’s got some heft, it just slides out when I bend over. Only thing that’s never bailed on me is the hammer itself. Maybe someone’s figured out a better hack, but for me, it’s mostly just a glorified hammer holster.

Funny, I’ve had the same issue with stuff slipping out—especially those skinny pry bars. I started wrapping a bit of grippy tape around the handle, which helps it catch on the loop better. Not perfect, but at least it doesn’t hit the floor every time I crouch.

Man, I know exactly what you mean with those skinny pry bars. I’ve lost count of how many times something’s slipped out of my loop mid-climb or when I’m ducking under scaffolding. Grippy tape is a good call—sometimes I’ll even just wrap a rubber band around the handle if I’m in a pinch. Ever tried one of those magnetic wristbands? I stuck one through my hammer loop once, just to see if it’d help keep hold of small tools, but honestly, it was more hassle than help.

Funny thing is, I actually use my hammer loop for my chalk line half the time. It’s not what it’s meant for, but it keeps it handy and less likely to fall out than a bar or hammer. Anyone else find certain tools just never want to stay put no matter what you do? Or is that just me being clumsy on steep pitches?
