Little-known uses for that hammer loop on your belt

That hammer loop is more versatile than it gets credit for. I’ve used it to hold a flashlight when I’m checking breaker panels in tight spots - beats dropping it every time I need both hands. Not sure I’d trust it with anything heavier than a quart can, though. Had a guy on my crew try to hang a cordless drill from his once… let’s just say it didn’t end well for the drill or the floor tile.

I’ve always wondered why more folks don’t use that loop for holding their water bottle. On a hot roof, trying to balance a bottle on the ridge just doesn’t cut it, and the loop keeps it handy. Has anyone used the loop for anything non-tool-related? I stuck a rag through there last summer for wiping sweat, but it ended up dragging across the shingles and picking up grit. Not sure it was worth it. Sometimes I’ll hang my gloves from it if I’m taking a quick break, but they’re usually half-falling out by the time I’m done.

Curious if anyone’s found a hack for using that loop for something green-roof related - like tucking a trowel or a handful of sedum plugs? I usually just keep extra plants in a bucket nearby, but it’d be nice not to have to crawl back and forth every time.

I’ve tried the sunscreen-in-the-loop idea and honestly, it just ended up banging against my leg until I got annoyed and tossed it in the gutter (not proud of that). For green roof stuff, I’ve had better luck with a carabiner - clip a small bag of plugs or even a trowel. The hammer loop’s just too loose for anything lightweight or round, at least in my experience. Maybe someone’s figured out a hack, but I keep going back to buckets and bags.
