"Nothing like climbing back up there only to scratch your head wondering where the heck your marks went..."
Haha, been there more times than I'd like to admit. Have you tried using colored zip ties or small pieces of bright tape as markers? I started doing that after a particularly stormy week wiped out all my crayon marks. They hold up surprisingly well in rough weather, and they're easy to spot from a distance. Plus, if you're snapping photos anyway, the bright colors really pop in the pictures, making it easier to pinpoint problem areas later. Have you noticed any particular color or brand of lumber crayon holding up better than others, or is it pretty much the same across the board?
