Last weekend I finally got around to using one of those roof inspection checklists I downloaded online. Honestly, I thought it was gonna be a waste of time, but um...turns out I had a couple shingles loose and some flashing that was pretty sketchy. Glad I caught it before the rainy season hit. Curious if anyone else has tried one of these lists and found it helpful or if you think they're kinda pointless?

Those checklists can definitely be useful, especially for catching smaller things early. Loose shingles and compromised flashing are two of the most common issues I see, and they're often overlooked until water damage sets in. One thing I'd suggest adding to your routine is checking attic ventilation—poor airflow up there can speed up deterioration significantly. Did your checklist cover ventilation at all, or was it mostly surface-level items?

Good point about ventilation—it's easy to overlook. I learned that the hard way a few years back when my attic turned into a sauna every summer. Shingles started curling way sooner than they should've, and I ended up replacing half the roof. After adding some ridge vents and soffit vents, things cooled down noticeably. Curious if anyone else has noticed a big difference after improving attic airflow?

Yeah, attic ventilation makes a huge difference. Seen plenty of roofs damaged prematurely just from trapped heat and moisture. Ridge vents helped me a ton too, but did you notice any improvement in your energy bills afterward? Mine dropped noticeably after the upgrade...

Good point about attic ventilation—seen a lot of roofs fail early because people overlook that. Ridge vents definitely help, but I've also noticed proper soffit vents make a big difference too. As for energy bills, mine didn't drop dramatically after fixing shingles and flashing, but the house feels less stuffy upstairs now. Probably because moisture isn't getting trapped anymore...definitely worth the effort in my book.
