We're looking into redoing the roof soon, and I'm kinda stuck deciding between shelling out a big chunk upfront (capital expense) or spreading the cost over time as an operating expense. Curious what others prefer and why...

I'm with you on spreading it out—less painful seeing smaller numbers leave the bank account each month, haha. But honestly, if you can swing the upfront cost, you'll usually save a bit overall. Just make sure you factor in any interest or fees...they sneak up on ya.
