You're spot-on about prep being crucial. I've inspected countless roofs where DIY patches failed simply because folks skipped proper surface prep. Good on you for figuring that out early—it's a step many overlook. Still, you're right about worn shingles; tape's just buying time. Eventually, replacing them is the smarter long-term move. Yeah, prep definitely makes or breaks it. Learned that the hard way myself—thought I could slap some sealant on damp shingles once...didn't end well. How long you think your tape fix'll hold up?
