Thinking about replacing my roof—are shingles really worth it?

- Had shingles for years—felt like every big wind meant a trip up the ladder.
- Metal cost more, but I haven’t touched it since install. No more chasing shingle bits around the yard.
- Yeah, hail sounds like a drum solo, but at least I’m not mopping up leaks.
- If you’re moving soon, maybe stick with shingles. Planning to stay? Metal’s been way less hassle for me.
- Only downside: snow slides off in one big sheet... nearly took out my grill last winter.

- Metal’s great for durability, but I’ve had issues with cell signal dropping inside since the switch.
- Shingles are easier to patch if you get a small leak—metal repairs can get pricey.
- Snow guards help with the avalanche effect, but they’re an extra cost.
- For resale, some buyers still prefer the look of shingles, especially in older neighborhoods.
- Not saying metal’s bad, just worth weighing the trade-offs depending on your situation.
