Lighter shingles can help a bit with cooling, but honestly, the difference isn't always huge. I've seen homeowners spend extra on reflective coatings expecting big savings, only to find the payoff pretty modest. If your attic insulation and ventilation aren't up to par, roof color alone won't make much impact. I'd say invest in proper insulation first—usually gives you better bang for your buck than pricier shingles or coatings.
