torn between GAF Timberline HDZ and Owens Corning Duration shingles
I'm stuck deciding between the Timberline HDZ shingles from GAF and Owens Corning Duration. I've read up on both, and they seem pretty similar... but you know how it goes, there's always some little detail people notice after they're already installed, lol. I'm leaning towards Timberline cause my neighbor used them last year and they look great. But if anyone has experience with either one, I'd appreciate hearing what made you pick it over the other.

Yeah, Timberline HDZ shingles do have a nice appearance, but just wanted to throw something else out there to consider. When I was researching this last summer, I initially leaned toward Timberline too, mostly because of their popularity and how good they looked on nearby houses. But after digging deeper into the details, I ended up going with Owens Corning Duration. One of the main reasons was the SureNail strip - it genuinely made installation easier for me (I DIY'd it), and it felt like the shingles locked in place more securely. Also, I noticed Duration shingles had slightly better wind resistance ratings at the time, which mattered to me because our area gets pretty gusty storms.
Not knocking Timberline - they're solid shingles - but sometimes those small details like ease of installation or extra wind protection can make a difference down the road. Just figured I'd share my experience since you're still on the fence...
Timberlines do look sharp, but gotta say, after helping my brother roof his place last fall, those Duration shingles with the SureNail strip saved us a ton of headaches...especially for first-timers. Just something else to chew on before you pull the trigger.
