Cedar shakes definitely have their charm—no denying that. From a purely technical angle, they offer solid insulation and decent longevity if properly maintained. But yeah, the upfront cost can be tough to swallow, especially considering periodic treatments to prevent mold or rot. Did you consider synthetic shake alternatives at all? Some newer composite products closely mimic cedar shakes visually but require less maintenance and might save a bit in the long haul...
