Slowing down at the start feels counterintuitive, but it’s saved me more than once.
I get what you’re saying, but honestly, sometimes I feel like all the prep in the world can’t save you from a 40-year-old house’s “quirks.” Last month I tried to swap out a light fixture—should’ve been a 20-minute job. Ended up discovering ancient knob-and-tube wiring hiding behind the drywall. No amount of sniffing for weird smells or checking switches would’ve tipped me off. I’m all for being careful, but sometimes you just have to accept you’re rolling the dice with old houses.
