"Manufacturers probably don't mind if we toss and replace instead of repair, but doubt it's always malicious."
Yeah, agreed. But doesn't it feel like they're making it harder than it needs to be sometimes? Like, I get the cost-saving angle, but when you have to practically break something just to fix it...isn't that crossing a line? Had a similar run-in with a Bluetooth speakerβended up cracking the casing just to swap out a simple battery. Teardown vids are lifesavers, though...wish I'd checked one first. Lesson learned, I guess.
Haha, been there myselfβtried fixing my earbuds last month and ended up with a jigsaw puzzle of tiny plastic bits scattered across the kitchen table. Pretty sure the manufacturers secretly enjoy picturing us wrestling with their gadgets. But yeah, teardown vids are golden...saved me from totally wrecking my phone screen once. Guess it's all part of the DIY initiation ritualβwelcome to the club!
Honestly, manufacturers could make repairs way simpler if they wanted to. Ever notice how screws keep getting smaller and more obscure? It's like they're daring us to lose them. Teardown vids are lifesavers, but sometimes even those can't save you from the dreaded "leftover parts" syndrome...
"Ever notice how screws keep getting smaller and more obscure? It's like they're daring us to lose them."
Haha, this is painfully accurate. Last weekend I tried replacing the battery on my old tabletβfigured, how hard could it be, right? Watched a teardown vid twice, laid out all the tiny screws carefully... and still ended up crawling around my kitchen floor with a flashlight for half an hour looking for one microscopic screw that bounced off into oblivion. Never found it either. Tablet works fine though... minus one screw. Guess it wasn't important?
Maybe it wasn't critical, but did you notice any gaps or looseness around the casing afterward? Usually tablets can handle a missing screw or two, but I'd probably grab a small strip of electrical tape just to seal things up and keep dust out... better safe than sorry.
