How tricky is too tricky when fixing modern gadgets?

I see where you're coming from, but I don't think it's always intentional disposability. Sometimes those odd screws or sealed components are there for safety or liability reasons—manufacturers trying to avoid lawsuits if someone tinkers and gets hurt. Not defending it, just saying there's usually more than one reason behind design choices. Still, it is frustrating when you just want to fix something simple and end up blocked by proprietary screws... been there myself with a toaster once.

Yeah, I get your point about safety and liability, but man, it still feels like overkill sometimes. Just moved into my first house and had to fix a ceiling fan last weekend—thought it'd be a quick job until I hit those weird screws. Ended up needing a special screwdriver just to open the casing. I mean, I appreciate they're trying to keep people safe, but it shouldn't take specialized tools just to clean out some dust or tighten a loose wire. Anyway, glad I'm not the only one who's been there with kitchen appliances... makes me feel a bit less clueless about home repairs.

Haha yeah, welcome to the club! Those "security" screws are everywhere now. Honestly, I get the safety angle, but sometimes it feels more like manufacturers just want us to call in a pro or buy their special toolkit. Quick tip though—grab yourself one of those cheap multi-bit screwdriver sets online. Saved me multiple trips to the hardware store... and probably a few gray hairs too.

I ran into this exact issue when my coffee machine broke down. Thought it'd be a quick fix—nope, needed some bizarre star-shaped bit. Ended up ordering one of those cheap multi-bit kits online...now it's my go-to whenever gadgets get stubborn. Manufacturers sure love making things complicated these days.

Haha, those weird star-shaped screws are everywhere now. I remember trying to fix my Bluetooth speaker last summer—thought it'd be a quick solder job, but nope, same deal. Ended up borrowing a buddy's multi-bit kit (lifesaver, honestly). It's funny how gadgets seem designed to keep us out these days...like they're daring us to try. At least it makes for good stories later on.
