Totally get this... I've seen so many homeowners struggle with overly complicated setups. Sometimes simpler really is betterβ€”especially for stuff like irrigation or thermostats. Less headaches, more peace of mind.

Agreed, simpler usually beats complicatedβ€”especially after storms when people just need stuff working again quickly. Ever tried troubleshooting a smart home setup after lightning fries part of it? Nightmare waiting to happen... Do we really need everything connected to Wi-Fi?

Haha, lightning plus smart devices equals instant regret. Step one: curse the storm. Step two: stare blankly at your fried gadgets. Honestly, a little less Wi-Fi dependence wouldn't hurtβ€”sometimes a good old-fashioned switch is all you need...

Couldn't agree more. Ever considered installing whole-home surge protection? It's surprising how many folks overlook it until they're staring at a pile of crispy electronics. Sure, smart gadgets are convenient, but relying completely on Wi-Fi for everything from lights to door locks... maybe that's asking for trouble. A manual override or backup can save you headaches down the road. Have you checked if your electrical panel supports adding surge protectors?

Good points there. I've got a mix of smart and dumb gadgets around my place, and honestly, I prefer it that way. A few months back, my Wi-Fi went down for almost a full day (thanks, ISP...), and suddenly my fancy smart thermostat was about as useful as a brick. Luckily, I still had manual controls on most things, but it was a good reminder not to go overboard.

Whole-home surge protection is definitely underratedβ€”installed mine last year after a lightning strike fried my neighbor's TV. Easy enough DIY if you're comfortable around your breaker panel, just make sure you get the right type for your setup. And yeah, manual overrides are lifesavers. I swapped out a couple of smart switches for regular toggles in key spots like hallways and bathrooms. Nothing worse than fumbling with your phone app at 2 AM just to turn on the bathroom light...
