Just finished tearing off two old layers of shingles from my roof, and man, what a difference it made. Didn't realize how much weight and wear those extra layers were causing. Plus, found out our local code only allows two layers max anyway, so glad I caught that before inspection day, haha. Curious if anyone else tackled a similar roofing project and felt that same relief after peeling back years of old shingles?
Did a similar job last summer—tore off two layers and found some unexpected rot underneath. Definitely felt good to get rid of all that extra weight, plus gave me peace of mind knowing the decking was solid again. Surprising how much difference it makes structurally...
Ran into something similar a couple years back—thought it'd be a quick tear-off, but ended up uncovering some sketchy patch jobs from who knows when. Crazy how much hidden damage can lurk under those layers, huh? I was skeptical at first about the structural difference, but once we replaced the decking, the whole roof just felt more solid underfoot. Definitely worth the extra hassle, even if it did throw off my weekend plans...
