Good reminder about soffit vents—I almost overlooked mine too. Previous owners had stuffed insulation right up against them... airflow was basically zero. Pulled that back, installed some baffles, and the attic temps dropped noticeably. Now I just need to convince myself to tackle insulating the attic hatch...

Haha, I feel your pain on the attic hatch! I procrastinated on mine forever, thinking it wouldn't make much difference. Eventually, I bit the bullet and glued some rigid foam insulation to the back side—nothing fancy, but it actually helped quite a bit. Cheap, quick, and surprisingly effective... plus, no more cold drafts sneaking down in winter. Highly recommend giving it a go when you have some spare time.

Haha, glad I'm not the only one who dreaded dealing with the attic hatch. Did you use weatherstripping around the edges too, or just foam on the back? I ended up doing both—figured why not since I was already up there sweating and cursing. Honestly, it made a bigger difference than I expected, especially in summer. Now I'm wondering why I put it off so long...
I tackled mine a while back—foam board plus weatherstripping around the edges. Honestly, sealing the hatch was probably the single biggest improvement I made up there. Wish I'd done it sooner... would've saved me some sweaty afternoons messing with attic fans and vents.
Interesting, I hadn't considered the hatch seal as a significant factor before. I've been focusing mostly on ventilation—installed ridge vents last summer—but still noticed heat buildup. Might need to check my hatch sealing more closely... did you use standard weatherstripping or something specific?
