Getting my roof ready for solar - am I missing something?

Been thinking about finally getting solar panels installed, and spent last weekend up on the roof checking things out. Found a couple loose shingles and some moss buildup (ugh, joys of living in the PNW). I'm planning to clean it up and maybe get someone to inspect it properly before the installers come. Wondering if anyone else ran into unexpected issues prepping their roof for solar panels or has tips I might not have thought of?

Good call on checking things out yourself first - loose shingles and moss are pretty common, especially around here. One thing I'd double-check is your flashing around vents and chimneys. Solar installers sometimes overlook those areas, and if they're not sealed properly, you could end up with leaks down the road. Also, how old is your roof? If it's nearing replacement age, might be worth considering doing that first rather than dealing with panel removal later...

- Good points above, especially about the flashing.
- Recently had panels installed on a property I manage - roof was about 18 yrs old, seemed fine at first glance.

- Wish I'd done this... ended up having to remove panels just 2 yrs later for a full reroof. Extra cost and downtime - not fun.
- Definitely worth getting a roofer's opinion beforehand, even if it looks okay now.
