Just read this news piece about people using reflective roof paint to keep their attics cooler during summer. Apparently it can drop attic temps by like 20 degrees or something. Mine feels like a literal oven on hot days, you know... I'm curious if anyone here has tried this kind of paint or maybe some other method, fans, vents or whatever. Does it actually make a noticeable difference or is it just another gimmick?
"Apparently it can drop attic temps by like 20 degrees or something."
Yeah, reflective paint can definitely helpβI haven't personally tried it, but my neighbor did last summer and swears by it. He said the difference was noticeable almost immediately. But honestly, pairing it with proper ventilation (like ridge vents or solar attic fans) is probably your best bet. Paint alone helps, but good airflow makes a huge difference too. Have you checked how well your attic's ventilated already?
- Reflective paint's cool, but ventilation is king.
- Helped my uncle install ridge vents last summer... attic went from "oven mode" to "toasty but tolerable."
- Maybe check soffit vents tooβsometimes they're blocked by insulation.
