I get what you're saying about climbing up after every storm feeling excessive... I used to think the same thing. But honestly, after a few years of homeownership, I've learned the hard way that storms can do sneaky damage you won't notice from the ground. Last spring, we had a pretty mild storm—nothing crazy, just some wind and rain—but a couple weeks later, I noticed a weird water stain on my ceiling. Turns out, a few shingles had lifted just enough to let water seep in slowly.

Now, I'm not saying you need to climb up there every single time it rains (I definitely don't), but maybe after bigger storms or at least seasonally. Also, binoculars are your friend—seriously underrated tool for quick checks without risking your neck on a ladder. And don't forget about flashing around chimneys or vents; those spots seem to cause trouble more often than you'd think.

Yeah, binoculars are a lifesaver for quick checks. I used to skip inspections too, thinking it was overkill, but after dealing with a sneaky leak near my chimney flashing... lesson learned. Better safe than sorry, right?

True, but honestly, climbing up there once or twice a year isn't that bad. Binoculars miss stuff like soft spots or loose shingles. Plus, gives me an excuse to pretend I'm handy for a day... wife still isn't convinced though.

You're braver than me—I used to climb up there myself until one spring I nearly slid off thanks to some sneaky moss. Now I stick to ladders and binoculars, haha. But you're right, binoculars do miss stuff like soft spots. If you're comfortable up there, more power to you... just watch out for that moss, it's sneakier than it looks.

Haha, that moss is no joke... learned that the hard way myself. Couple years back, I thought I'd save a few bucks doing my own roof inspection—ended up sliding halfway down before catching myself on the gutter. My neighbor still teases me about my "Spider-Man moment." Binoculars are safer, sure, but nothing beats getting up close to spot those sneaky soft spots. Props to you for still braving it up there—just keep an eye out for that green menace!
