Metal really does hold up, especially if it’s installed right and you keep an eye on fasteners over the years. I’ve seen some older barns with barely any rust, even after decades of rough winters. Green roofs are cool in theory but yeah, snow load can be a nightmare—seen a couple cases where drainage wasn’t perfect and things got messy fast. For attic ventilation, I’ve had luck adding ridge vents and baffles from inside the attic—messy but doable without tearing into the roof deck. It’s not perfect, but made a noticeable difference with ice damming.

Yeah, metal roofs are like the tanks of the roofing world—mine’s survived hail, wind, and one very determined raccoon. I hear you on the green roofs, though. My neighbor tried one and let’s just say, when it rained, it looked more like a swamp than a roof. Ridge vents and baffles made a world of difference with my attic too—crawling around up there wasn’t exactly my idea of a good Saturday, but at least my gutters aren’t forming icicles the size of baseball bats anymore. Stick with it, it’s worth the hassle.

Metal roofs are tough, no doubt, but I actually had more trouble than I expected with noise during storms. Might be my house, but the rain can get pretty loud. Also, green roofs can work if you’ve got the right drainage—my cousin’s in Portland and his looks great, no swamp issues. Ridge vents are a pain to install but totally agree they’re worth it for ice dam prevention.

Metal roofs are cool for durability, but yeah, the rain noise is no joke. I stayed at a friend’s place with one and felt like I was in a drum solo every time it stormed. I’m on asphalt shingles—cheaper upfront, but I’m patching them more than I’d like. Ridge vents were a pain to DIY, but my heating bill dropped a bit after. If I could swing it, I’d try a green roof, but my wallet says otherwise... maybe someday.

I gotta say, I actually kind of like the sound of rain on a metal roof—reminds me of camping as a kid. But yeah, patching shingles gets old fast. Ever thought about those composite shingles? Supposed to last longer, but I’m not sure if they’re worth the extra cash.
