neighbor's roofing job looks sketchy, permit issue maybe?

My neighbor's been getting his roof redone the past few days, and honestly, it looks kinda rushed and messy. Pretty sure he didn't get a proper permit... should I say something or just mind my own business?

Haha, oh man, this reminds me of when my neighbor decided to DIY his roof after a storm last year. He swore up and down he knew what he was doing because he'd watched "a bunch of YouTube videos." 🙄 Anyway, long story short, the shingles ended up looking like they'd been tossed on by a tornado rather than carefully placed. I didn't say anything at first - figured it wasn't my circus, not my monkeys - but then we got hit with another storm about two months later. Guess whose shingles ended up scattered all over MY yard? Yep.

Honestly though, permits exist for a reason. They're not just bureaucratic red tape (well... mostly). They help ensure the job is done safely and correctly so your neighbor doesn't end up with leaks or worse down the line. But I totally get not wanting to be "that neighbor" who calls the city on someone. Maybe casually bring it up next time you chat? Like, "Hey, noticed you're getting some roof work done - did the city give you any trouble about permits? Heard they're cracking down lately." That way you're not accusing him directly but still planting the seed.

Either way, don't stress too much about it. You're observant enough to notice something's off, which means you're already ahead of most people. And hey, if things do go sideways, at least you'll have front-row seats to the neighborhood drama... popcorn optional 😉
