Saw a local news report yesterday about a family who hired the same roofer their neighbor had used, figuring if it was good enough for next door, it'd do for them too. Turns out, the roofer did a terrible job, leaks everywhere after the first rainstorm, and now they're stuck paying more to fix the damage. Guess the neighbor just got lucky or something, huh?
Made me think about how we all tend to trust recommendations from people we know, even if they aren't experts or anything. I've done this myself with a plumber onceβmy friend said he was decent, but the guy ended up flooding my kitchen (true story, you can't make this stuff up). Anyway, just got me wondering if anyone else has had similar experiences relying on neighbors or friends for contractor recommendations and regretting it later.
