Couldn’t agree more. I tried heat cables for two winters—barely helped, just ran up my electric bill. Upgrading insulation was a game changer. If you’re ever redoing the roof, consider a green or “cool” roof system. They cut down on heat loss and ice dams, plus they’re better for the environment. Not cheap, but long-term savings are real.“Heat cables are just a band-aid if you’ve got bigger issues up top.”
