How I dodged a payday loan disaster
But then again, paper gets soggy, blows away… or just disappears when you need it most.
- I get the frustration with tech, but I’ve lost more paper than I’ve ever lost files. Last year, my dog ate half a receipt I needed for a return. Not kidding.
- Battery packs are cheap now. I keep one in my glovebox and haven’t run out of juice since.
- Cloud’s not perfect, but at least if my phone’s gone, my notes aren’t. Paper’s gone, it’s just...gone.
- Still, nothing beats scribbling a quick sketch on the spot. I just snap a pic for backup these days.
- Coffee stains or not, I’d rather have both options than trust just one.
I totally get the paper vs. tech debate. I’ve had lease agreements go missing in a stack of folders, and that’s a nightmare when you need them for a tenant dispute. Now, I scan everything - receipts, notes, even quick sketches from inspections. If my phone dies, I’ve got a backup battery in my work bag, and if I lose the phone, the cloud’s got me covered. Still, I keep a notepad in my car for jotting down stuff on the fly - sometimes you just need pen and paper, especially during showings when tech decides to freeze up. Having both really saves headaches.

I get the appeal of having both, but honestly, paper’s bitten me more times than tech ever has. Had a whole roof inspection checklist blow out the truck window once - gone forever. At least with digital, even if it glitches, I can usually recover it later. Pen and paper’s great in a pinch, but I’ve learned to trust my phone more than loose sheets these days.
I get where you’re coming from - losing a checklist to the wind would drive me nuts. But I’ve had my phone die right when I needed it, and then I’m stuck with nothing. Do you ever worry about battery life or losing stuff if your phone crashes? I’m always torn between wanting everything digital and not trusting it 100%. Maybe it’s just me, but I feel like there’s no perfect system.
I hear you on not trusting digital 100%. One time, I was juggling a bunch of repairs and had everything in my notes app - then my phone just bricked out of nowhere. Lost receipts, lists, all of it. Since then, I keep a paper backup for anything important. It’s a pain to double up, but at least if one fails, I’m not totally sunk. There’s always some tradeoff... guess it’s just about finding what headaches you’re willing to deal with.
