I agree with you on the turbines seizing up—I had one that started squeaking like crazy after just two years. Drove me nuts until I finally climbed up and replaced it.

"Has anyone here experimented with combining both types on the same roof?"

Honestly, I think mixing them might mess up the airflow. Ridge vents rely on a steady, passive draw from soffit vents, and turbines could disrupt that balance. Seems like you'd be better off picking one system and making sure it's installed right...

Yeah, I get the logic behind not mixing them, but honestly, I doubt it'd make a huge difference in practice. I've seen houses around my neighborhood with both ridge vents and turbines, and they seem fine. The bigger issue is probably maintenance—like you said:

"I had one that started squeaking like crazy after just two years."

If you're budget-conscious (like me), sticking to one reliable system might save you headaches—and cash—in the long run. Just my two cents...

Totally agree about sticking to one reliable system. Had turbines on my old place, and man, those things were drama queens—one gusty night and it sounded like a haunted house up there. Switched to ridge vents when we redid the roof, and it's been smooth sailing ever since. Honestly, splurging a bit upfront saved me from midnight ladder adventures and awkward neighbor conversations about ghostly noises...

Haha, been there! Had a client once swear their attic was possessed—turned out it was just those turbines rattling loose. Ridge vents are definitely quieter and less hassle overall, good call making the switch.

Haha, turbines can definitely get noisy when they're loose or worn out. Had a similar issue at my own place—thought I'd installed everything perfectly, but one windy night had me second-guessing my skills. Switched to ridge vents shortly after, and it's been smooth sailing since. Definitely worth the extra upfront cost for peace of mind and fewer callbacks down the road...
