- Yep, seen metal roofs hold up great, but they're definitely not bulletproof—had one job where golf-ball-sized hail left some nasty dents.
- Good install is key, agreed...proper underlayment and insulation make a huge difference in noise.
- Green roofs are cool, but maintenance can be a pain. Metal's simpler long-term.

Metal roofs are solid, but yeah, golf-ball-sized hail can definitely leave a mark. Had one customer swear his metal roof was "hail-proof," and then a storm rolled through...you should've seen his face when he saw those dents. Priceless.

But honestly, even with the occasional dent, metal's still one of the best bets out there. Like you said, installation is everything. I've seen some DIY jobs that turned into noisy nightmares because they skipped proper insulation or underlayment. Spend the extra time (and yeah, cash) to get it done right, and you'll thank yourself later when it's pouring buckets outside and you can still hear Netflix clearly.

Green roofs look amazing on paper (and in Instagram pics), but man, I've heard enough horror stories to steer clear personally. Sure, they're eco-friendly and all that jazz, but unless you're ready to commit to regular maintenance—think weeding your roof garden on weekends—it's probably more hassle than it's worth.

If you're thinking about splurging, metal is probably your sweet spot: durability meets low-maintenance. And if hail dents bug you visually, some insurance policies cover cosmetic damage from storms—worth checking out so you're not stuck staring at golf-ball dimples forever.

Bottom line: If you're tired of patching shingles after every storm or worrying about leaks every time clouds roll in, upgrading to a quality metal roof is totally worth it. Just make sure whoever installs it knows their stuff...or you'll be back here posting about how loud rain sounds at 2 AM.

- Good points about metal roofs—seen plenty hold up well even after nasty storms, dents aside.
- Curious though, have you looked into impact-resistant shingles? They're pricier than regular shingles but might be a decent middle ground if hail's a big concern.
- Totally agree on green roofs...they look cool but seem like way too much upkeep for most folks.

We had a hailstorm a couple years back, and my neighbor had just upgraded to those impact-resistant shingles. Honestly, his roof barely had a scratch, while mine looked like swiss cheese... Definitely pricier upfront, but might save headaches later on. Still debating it myself.

Went through something similar myself a few years ago. Had a client who insisted on regular shingles despite my gentle nudging toward the impact-resistant stuff. Fast forward about six months, and we got hit with a hailstorm that sounded like someone was throwing golf balls at the roof. His neighbor, who'd gone with the premium shingles, was out grilling burgers the next day without a care in the world. Meanwhile, my client's roof looked like it'd been through a cheese grater—he wasn't thrilled about that one.

Yeah, upfront costs can sting a bit, but when you factor in insurance deductibles, repair hassles, and the sheer inconvenience of dealing with roof damage...it starts looking like a smarter move. Plus, there's something to be said for not having to nervously peek outside every time the weather forecast mentions hail. Just my two cents from seeing it play out more times than I'd like!
