Good points on ventilation, that's often overlooked. Had a client once who splurged big-time on premium shingles but skimped on attic airflow... shingles curled within 8 years. Curious, anyone here tried metal roofing instead of high-end asphalt? Seems like durability might justify the extra cost.

Yikes, that's exactly the kind of mistake I'm hoping to avoid. As a first-time homeowner, I'm still figuring out what's worth investing in and what's just marketing hype. Metal roofing caught my eye too—heard it's great for durability and even energy efficiency—but the upfront cost is pretty intimidating. Still, if it means not having to worry about replacing shingles every decade or so, maybe it's worth biting the bullet? Curious if anyone's had metal roofing long-term and can vouch for how it holds up over time.

Metal roofs are legit—seen plenty hold up great after nasty storms. Few quick points:
- Yeah, upfront cost stings, but 30-50 yrs lifespan is no joke.
- Energy savings noticeable in summer (less AC cranking).
- Just make sure install is solid...seen some sketchy DIY jobs go sideways fast.
Had a metal roof put in about 12 yrs ago after a nasty hailstorm shredded our shingles. Honestly, it's been rock solid ever since—no leaks, no dents, nothing. Definitely noticed the house stays cooler in July/August without the AC working overtime. Only downside was the noise during heavy rain took getting used to...but now it's kinda relaxing, lol. Just make sure whoever installs it knows their stuff—seen some nightmare installs that caused more headaches than they solved.
- Metal roofs are solid, no doubt, but they're not magic—seen a few dented up pretty bad after big hailstorms.
- Agree on the install though...a bad installer can turn your roof into a noisy tin can, lol.
- Still prefer green roofs myself, but metal's a decent alternative.
