"reflective shingles can be beneficial in terms of energy savings and reducing attic heat, but if you're mainly worried about storms or durability, there might be better ways to spend your roofing budget..."

Yeah, gotta agree here. When I bought my first house last year, the previous owner had just installed reflective shingles, and I was pretty excited about the energy savings. But after our first big storm, I had shingles scattered all over my yard. Turns out they weren't rated for high winds at all. Lesson learned—impact rating matters way more than reflectivity if you want durability.

Yeah, reflective shingles can be great if you're mostly focused on energy bills, but they're definitely not a one-size-fits-all solution. I've seen plenty of roofs that looked fantastic right after install, only to end up a mess after a couple storms. Honestly, if durability is your main concern, I'd put my money into architectural shingles or even metal roofing—might cost a bit more upfront, but you'll thank yourself next time a nasty storm rolls through...

Yeah, gotta agree with this. Seen way too many reflective shingles peeled back like banana skins after a decent storm. Metal roofing is solid, but keep in mind it can get noisy if you're sensitive to rain sounds. Architectural shingles hit that sweet spot imo—durable enough for most storms without breaking the bank. Just make sure you get a reputable installer...bad installs ruin even the best materials.

Good points here, but noise from metal roofs is usually exaggerated. If you install proper insulation and underlayment, it's honestly not much louder than shingles. Just make sure your installer doesn't skimp on those layers...makes a huge difference during heavy rain.

Metal roofs with proper insulation definitely reduce the noise, but I wouldn't dismiss it entirely. From personal experience, even with quality underlayment, heavy rainstorms can still create a noticeable drumming sound—especially in attic spaces or upper floors. If you're sensitive to noise or have bedrooms right under the roofline, you might wanna test it out first. Maybe visit a friend's house during a storm before committing...could save you some regret later on.
