Yeah, three quotes is pretty much the standard rule of thumb I've seen over the years. Honestly, it's not some magical number, but it does help you get a good sense of what's fair pricing and what's just way off base. I've had customers who got only one quote and ended up paying way too much, and others who got like six or seven and just confused themselves into indecision. Three usually gives you enough info without driving yourself crazy...
