Just finished getting our roof redone last week and figured I'd share how I went about checking everything afterward. First thing I did was walk around the house, eyeballing from ground level to see if anything looked offβshingles not lined up, flashing sticking out weirdly, stuff like that. Then I climbed up (carefully, lol) and checked the shingles up close for any loose or lifted edges. After that, I gave the gutters a quick peek to make sure there wasn't leftover debris or nails hiding in there.
The roofer emailed me a PDF checklist, which honestly helped a ton. It suggested checking attic spaces for daylight sneaking throughβsomething I hadn't even thought of. So yeah, climbed into the attic with a flashlight and looked around. Found nothing weird, thankfully.
Anyway, that's what worked for me. But I'm no expert, so maybe some of you who've done this before have better ways or tips? I'd hate to miss something important and only find out when it rains again...
Sounds like you covered most of the important stuff. Did you happen to check around any vents or chimneys? When we had ours redone, I almost missed a spot where the flashing wasn't sealed properly around the chimney. Didn't notice until a windy day when I heard some weird rattling... thankfully caught it before any rain came through. Might be worth a quick double-check if you haven't already.

Good catch on that chimney flashing issueβthose spots can definitely sneak past you. Had something similar happen when I redid my roof last summer. Everything looked great until I noticed a faint draft coming from the attic hatch one breezy night. Turned out the flashing around one of the vent pipes wasn't seated correctly, just enough to let air in. Quick fix, but glad I caught it early... always worth an extra glance around those tricky areas.
