Say you're getting your roof redone and you notice the crew skipping steps or using cheaper materials than agreed...would you confront them directly, call their boss, or just let it slide if it seems minor? Curious how others would handle this kinda awkward situation.

Definitely wouldn't let it slide—even minor shortcuts can lead to bigger issues down the road. I'd politely but firmly bring it up with the crew first, and if that doesn't resolve things, escalate to their supervisor. You're paying for quality work, after all...

I get your point about addressing it directly, but honestly, sometimes going straight to the crew can backfire. I've seen situations where workers get defensive or just patch things superficially to quiet complaints. Instead, documenting the issue first—photos, notes, whatever—then calmly approaching the supervisor directly might save you headaches later. It's not about skipping steps, just being strategic. After all, you're protecting your investment here...

I see your logic, but wouldn't going straight to the supervisor sometimes escalate things unnecessarily? I've found that casually chatting with the crew first—without making it sound like a complaint—can actually clear up misunderstandings. Maybe they're following instructions we aren't aware of? Documenting is smart, no doubt, but isn't there value in giving the workers a chance to explain before involving higher-ups? Just thinking out loud here...
