Saw this news story yesterday about a homeowner who ran into some serious trouble after installing solar panels on their roof. Apparently, the installers didn't properly check how steep the roof was, and after a heavy storm, the panels shifted and caused a ton of damage. Yikes.
Got me thinking about my own roofβit's not exactly flat, but it's not super steep either. Honestly, I never even thought about measuring or checking angles or anything like that. I mean, you know, roofs are roofs, right? But now I'm wondering if that's something people actually do regularly or if it's just a rare freak accident kind of thing.
Curious if anyone else saw this story or has dealt with something similar. Is there like a standard angle that's considered safe for solar panels or shingles? Or is this just one of those weird things that happens once in a blue moon...
Had solar panels put on a few years back, and honestly, the installers spent more time measuring angles than my math teacher did in high school geometry... I joked about it then, but now I'm kinda glad they did. Better safe than sorry, I guess?
