Yeah, rafters usually make more sense if you're planning to actually use the attic space. Did you run into any issues with ventilation or moisture control after switching? I've seen some attic conversions struggle with that down the road...
We switched over to rafters last summer, and honestly, ventilation was definitely something we worried about. Haven't noticed any major moisture issues yet, but we did install some extra vents just in case. Did you end up adding extra insulation or vapor barriers to help with that? I'm still kinda learning as I go here, so hearing how others handled it is super helpful...

We went with rafters too, mostly because we wanted attic storage. Didn't add vapor barriers, but did beef up insulation since winters here can get rough. Honestly haven't seen moisture issues yet either, but I'm keeping an eye out. Curious if anyone's had trouble with ice dams after switching to rafters...that was my main worry going in.

We actually did have some ice dam issues after switching to rafters, even with extra insulation. I think ventilation played a bigger role than insulation alone. Ended up adding ridge vents and soffit vents, and that pretty much solved it...just something to keep in mind.
Interesting point about ventilation...makes sense. But I'm curious, did you notice if the orientation or slope of your roof had any effect on ice dams forming? Seems like that could factor in too, beyond just insulation and vents.
