Yeah, attic inspections during rain are usually safer, but honestly, they don't always pinpoint the exact spot. Water has a sneaky way of traveling along beams or sheathing before dripping down. I've chased leaks that started 10 feet away from where the water actually showed up inside. Curious though—has anyone tried thermal imaging to track leaks? Heard it can highlight moisture trails pretty clearly without the risk of flooding your attic...

Thermal imaging's actually a solid idea. Had a similar issue last spring—water showing up nowhere near the actual leak. My roofer brought out a thermal camera, and it traced the moisture trail right back to the source within minutes. Saved a ton of guesswork and frustration. Definitely worth checking out if you're tired of playing hide-and-seek with leaks...

Thermal imaging can definitely be handy, but I'd say don't rely on it blindly. Had one job where the camera pointed us dead-on to a spot, we opened it up—nothing there. Finally tracked the leak 10 feet away after some old-school detective work. Useful tool, yeah, but not foolproof...

Couldn't agree more with this. When we had a leak last spring, the thermal cam showed a spot near the chimney, but it turned out to be a false alarm. Ended up finding the water entry point through careful observation during a rainstorm—just watching where the water actually trickled in. Saved us from tearing apart half the roof unnecessarily. Thermal imaging is great, but sometimes just slowing down and using your eyes can save money and headaches...

Had something similar happen on a job last year. Homeowner swore by thermal imaging, but when we climbed up there, the camera was pointing us in completely the wrong direction. Ended up spending an hour just sitting in the attic during a downpour, flashlight in hand, watching drops sneak in from a totally different spot. Technology's handy, sure, but nothing beats patience and good old-fashioned detective work sometimes. Glad you caught it before ripping things apart unnecessarily...been there, not fun.
