"Is one or two stray shingles after a big storm normal, or should I be climbing up there with a flashlight ASAP?"

Honestly, losing even one shingle isn't something to just brush off. A single missing shingle can let water sneak underneath, and once water gets in, things can escalate pretty quickly. If you're not comfortable climbing up yourself (totally understandable—roofs can be sketchy), it might be worth having someone experienced take a quick look. Better safe than sorry, especially since you've only been there a year...

I get what you're saying, but honestly, one or two shingles after a big storm isn't always a huge red flag. I've had a few storms knock off shingles here and there over the years, and it wasn't always an immediate disaster. Sure, water damage can happen if it's left unattended for too long, but usually there's some underlayment beneath the shingles that provides temporary protection.

If you're not seeing leaks or obvious signs of trouble inside your attic or ceilings, you probably don't need to panic just yet. Definitely keep an eye on it, though—especially if more storms are coming. I'd say wait until daylight and check from the ground with binoculars first. Climbing up in the dark with a flashlight sounds like a recipe for trouble (been there, done that... not fun). If anything looks sketchy from below, then yeah, calling someone experienced might be smart. But losing sleep over one shingle? Probably not necessary.
