Just got a quote for redoing my roof, and um, is it just me or have roofing prices gone way up lately? I remember doing my garage roof like five years ago and it wasn't nearly this pricey. The guy said material costs have jumped, but still... feels like a lot for just one square. Anyone else noticing this or am I just unlucky with quotes?

I dunno, might depend on the materials you're choosing? Had a similar experience recently—quoted way higher than before—but when I switched brands and went with something locally sourced, the price dropped noticeably. Maybe shop around a bit more...?

Yeah, materials definitely play a big role, but have you considered labor costs lately? They're creeping up too, especially if your roof has tricky angles or steep pitches... Have you noticed anything different about the quotes you're getting in terms of labor breakdown?

Labor costs are definitely becoming a bigger factor these days. When I got my roof redone last year, the contractor specifically pointed out that the steep pitch and multiple dormers were driving up labor hours. But going local for materials really helped balance things out, just like you mentioned. Good call on switching brands—sometimes exploring local options can make more difference than you'd expect.

- Had a similar experience a couple years back—my roof isn't even that steep, but the chimney flashing and skylights added way more labor than I expected.
- Agree on local materials though, saved me a decent chunk. Plus, felt good supporting local businesses.
- One thing I'd add: timing matters. I scheduled mine in early spring before the busy season hit, and the contractor was more flexible on pricing.
- Still, roofing prices lately...ouch. Glad it's not something we have to do every year, right?
