Roof checkups saved me big bucks—anyone else?

Yeah, drones are cool tech, but they're definitely not foolproof yet. Last summer, I had a drone inspection done after a big storm—figured it'd be quicker and cheaper. It spotted some missing shingles, which was great, but totally missed a soft spot near the chimney flashing. Only found out later when I climbed up myself to clean gutters and felt the plywood give a little under my foot... not a fun feeling, trust me.

"the inspector caught a small leak by feeling around the attic insulation—saved us from bigger headaches later."

Exactly why I still prefer getting up there myself or having someone physically check things out. Tech is handy, but nothing beats hands-on inspection for catching those sneaky issues before they turn into wallet-draining nightmares.

I recently had my first roof inspection done, and the inspector actually caught moisture buildup near the attic vent—something I wouldn't have even thought to check myself. Makes me wonder if drones can reliably detect subtle issues like that yet...

Good catch on the attic moisture—those sneaky issues can really snowball if you don't spot them early. I've seen drones used for roof inspections a few times, and they're pretty solid for checking shingles, flashing, and obvious damage. But subtle stuff like moisture buildup or ventilation problems...I'd still trust a seasoned inspector over drone footage any day. Drones can't poke around or feel dampness yet, and sometimes you need that hands-on approach to uncover hidden trouble spots.

Anyway, glad you got ahead of it. I've had a few clients who ignored small moisture issues, only to face mold remediation later—definitely not fun or cheap. Regular checkups are worth every penny in my experience.

True, drones have limits...but they're handy for initial checks. Curious if anyone's tried thermal imaging for spotting moisture issues early—does it actually catch hidden problems effectively? Heard mixed opinions.

Thermal imaging sounds promising, but honestly, I've seen it miss stuff. Had a neighbor swear by it until he found mold under shingles that never showed up on scans. Handy tool, sure—but I wouldn't ditch manual checks yet.
