"And trust me, rooftop pools aren't as glamorous when they're accidental...or indoors."

Haha, learned this the hard way myself. First big rainstorm after moving in, found a lovely indoor waterfall coming from the attic hatch... Turns out previous owners skipped regular roof checks. Now I set reminders every season—peace of mind is priceless. Glad you dodged that bullet early!

Haha, reading your story brought back some vivid memories. Had a similar experience a few years back—moved into an older house, and everything seemed fine at first glance. Then one night, during a particularly nasty storm, I woke up to the gentle sound of dripping water. Thought maybe I'd left a faucet running or something... nope. Turned out the roof had a sneaky leak right above the hallway closet. By the time I noticed, half my towels were soaked through and the drywall was already bubbling.

The kicker was that the previous owners had assured me they'd "recently checked" the roof. Guess their definition of "recently" was pretty flexible. Lesson learned: always double-check these things yourself or get someone you trust to do it. Now I make it a habit to climb up there every spring and fall, just to be safe. It's not exactly my favorite chore, but it's way better than dealing with surprise indoor waterfalls.

Good on you for setting reminders—honestly, that's smart. It's easy to forget about roof maintenance until something goes wrong, and by then it's usually expensive and messy. Preventative maintenance isn't glamorous, but it sure beats scrambling around with buckets at 3 AM. Glad you caught yours early enough to avoid major damage.

Yeah, learned that lesson the hard way myself. I used to think roof checks were just another chore to put off, but after paying for drywall repairs and mold removal... trust me, climbing up there twice a year is worth the hassle.

Yeah, I get the logic behind regular roof checks, but honestly, twice a year seems a bit much to me. I've been doing mine once every spring, and it's worked out fine so far. Maybe I'm just lucky? But now you've got me wondering if I should step it up—anyone here ever had issues pop up between annual inspections? Curious if there's a real benefit or if it's more peace of mind...

Once a year is generally sufficient, especially if you're thorough about it each spring. That said, I've seen situations where storm damage or small leaks cropped up unexpectedly between annual checks. Often, these issues start small—like a loose shingle or minor flashing damage—and can escalate pretty quickly if unnoticed. Twice-yearly inspections might feel excessive, but they do increase your chances of catching minor problems early, potentially saving you from bigger repair bills down the line. Still, if your roof's newer and in good shape, annual checks usually do the trick...
