Totally agree—frequency can make a big difference. I usually do a quick visual check after heavy storms, just to be safe. Caught a loose flashing once before it turned into a leak...saved me some stress and cash down the road.

Smart move catching that flashing early...roof leaks can snowball into wallet-draining nightmares real quick. Next time, maybe toss in a quick attic peek too—found some sneaky water stains hiding there once, almost missed 'em. Good catch, though!

Good tip about the attic check...but honestly, I'd say don't stop there. Ever checked your gutters after a storm? I've seen clogged gutters cause water to back up under shingles—another sneaky wallet-drainer waiting to happen.

Good point about gutters. I'd add flashing around chimneys and vents to that list too. Had a leak last year that turned out to be deteriorated flashing—looked fine from the ground but was letting water seep in slowly. Anyone else had issues with flashing or sealing around roof penetrations? Seems like these areas get overlooked pretty often...

Same here. Flashing around my chimney looked totally fine at first glance, but after noticing some damp spots inside, climbed up and found the sealant completely cracked and brittle. Ended up redoing it myself with some better quality sealant—lesson learned the hard way. Seems like these little maintenance tasks always slip my mind until there's already damage...
