Haha, flashing is definitely the sneaky culprit nobody thinks about. Ever checked your vent boots? Those rubber seals crack like crazy after a few years...found ours totally shredded last spring. Quick fix, but man, glad I caught it early.

Good catch on the vent boots—those things are sneaky. Did you happen to check your chimney cap too? Mine rusted out without me noticing...ended up with birds nesting inside. Definitely worth a quick look every now and then.

Vent boots got me last year too—sneaky is right. Funny you mention chimney caps, because mine was fine, but the flashing around my skylight decided to give up without warning. I swear, water leaks have some kind of sixth sense for timing...always choosing the worst possible moment to show up. Ever had to chase down a mystery leak? I spent days trying to figure out where it was coming from, only to realize it was traveling along a beam from the complete opposite side of the roof. Felt like Sherlock Holmes up there, minus the cool hat and pipe. Speaking of chimneys though, anyone ever try those chimney balloons? Curious if they're worth it or just another gimmick...

Ha, sounds familiar...water leaks are masters of deception. I've seen leaks travel along rafters and beams, popping up in places you'd never expect. About chimney balloons—I've inspected homes where folks swear by them for reducing drafts and heat loss. They're not gimmicks exactly, but effectiveness really depends on your chimney's condition and how well they're installed. Worth a shot if drafts are an issue, but don't expect miracles if your chimney needs serious repairs.

Tell me about it...I once spent an entire weekend tracking down a leak that ended up originating from a tiny gap around a vent pipe—clear across the attic from where water was dripping into the bedroom ceiling. Ever checked the flashing around your vents or skylights? Those sneaky little gaps can cause headaches, especially after storms or heavy winds. Worth a closer look if you're chasing mystery leaks.
