Saw a news story yesterday about a guy whose brakes failed just days after getting them repaired at a reputable shop. Apparently, the inspection afterward wasn't done properly, and it led to a pretty scary accident. Got me thinking...I always assumed that once the mechanic hands you back your keys, you're good to go. But now I'm kinda wondering how thorough these post-repair checks really are. Anyone had similar experiences or thoughts on this?

Honestly, I get why that's concerning, but I think it's less about the inspection itself and more about human error creeping in. Mechanics are usually pretty thorough—it's their reputation on the line—but they're still human. I've had similar experiences with home inspections; even the best inspector can miss something small (or big, unfortunately).

A buddy of mine had his tires rotated at a trusted shop, and they forgot to tighten one of the lug nuts properly. He noticed a weird wobble right away and went back before anything serious happened. Point is, no matter how reputable the place, mistakes happen. I always do a quick once-over myself after repairs now—just a habit I've picked up. Not saying we should all become mechanics overnight, but a little double-checking never hurts.
