So last weekend I figured I'd save some cash and clean my roof myself. Bought one of those roof cleaner sprays from the hardware store...um, let's just say it wasn't as easy as the label made it sound. Anyone else had better luck or should I just call the pros next time?

Been there, done that...and honestly, roof cleaning is one of those DIY jobs that's way trickier than it looks. Those sprays always promise miracles, but unless your roof is already pretty clean, they're usually disappointing. I tried it myself last spring—ended up spending half the weekend up there, slipping around and getting frustrated. Eventually got it done, but the results weren't exactly pro-level.

If you're determined to DIY, maybe try renting a pressure washer next time? Just be careful with the pressure settings so you don't damage shingles. But honestly, after my experience, I'd say calling in the pros is worth the extra cash. They have the right gear, know exactly what they're doing, and you'll save yourself a ton of hassle (and probably some bruises). Don't beat yourself up though—at least you gave it a shot and learned something new.
