Noticed recently that my roof shingles have these weird greenish-gray patches all over them. Did a bit of googling and turns out they're lichens. Honestly, I didn't even know lichens were a thing until now, thought it was just moss or something. Anyway, they're pretty stubborn little guys and apparently not great for the shingles long-term.

I tried spraying them down with a garden hose but, um, yeah...that didn't do much. I'm hesitant to go scraping them off because I don't wanna damage the shingles themselves. Plus, climbing up there with a scraper sounds like a recipe for disaster (I'm not exactly graceful, you know?).

Saw some products online that claim to remove lichens safely, but I'm always skeptical about these miracle sprays. Has anyone here dealt with this before? Maybe there's some DIY solution or household stuff that works better? Or should I just bite the bullet and call a professional roof cleaner?

Any advice would be awesome, especially if you've tried something yourself and it actually worked. Really don't wanna spend a fortune on this, but also don't wanna ignore it and end up needing a whole new roof later on.

- Tried one of those "miracle" sprays last year... honestly wasn't impressed. Took multiple applications and weeks to see any real difference.
- Heard vinegar-water mixtures can help, but never tested myselfβ€”bit skeptical it'd do much more than smell weird.
- Ended up calling a pro roof cleaner. Cost more than I'd hoped, but lichens haven't come back yet.
Curious if anyone's actually had luck with DIY methods long-term?
