I slapped some roofing sealant on the cracks thinking it’d buy me some time, but now I’m second-guessing if that’s actually doing anything or just making a mess. Has anyone else tried this? Did it hold up, or did you regret not just replacing the shingle right away?

Last weekend, I was up in the attic looking for some old camping gear (you know how it goes, stuff always disappears up there), and I noticed a couple of damp spots on the beams. So, being curious (and slightly paranoid), I climbed outside to check the roof tiles. Turns out, a few tiles are cracked and chipped, and there's moss growing in places I didn't even know moss could grow.

Now I'm stuck wondering if this is just a quick fix kind of thing or if it's time to bite the bullet and redo the whole roof. Honestly, I'm not exactly thrilled about shelling out big bucks right now, but I also don't wanna wake up one rainy night with water dripping onto my face.

Anyone been through something similar? How'd you decide between patching things up or going all-in on a new roof?

Just spent the afternoon carefully prying up some asphalt shingles to check and fix a pesky leak. Was honestly pretty nervous I'd end up cracking or tearing them, you know how brittle they can get, especially if they're older. Watched a couple YouTube vids, grabbed a flat pry bar, and took my sweet time. I mean slooowww. Kept gently working the edges bit by bit, and surprisingly, they popped up without breaking. Managed to reseal everything after the repair, and it looks like nothing even happened.

Kinda amazed it went this smoothly tbh, considering I've never really done this before. Feels good to dodge the bullet of replacing shingles completely. Curious if anyone else has had luck with this kinda thing or if I just got super lucky this time?
