I get nervous about sealing things up too tight too, especially since our place is from the 60s and who knows what’s lurking behind those walls. We tried spray foam in a couple spots last winter, but I swear I still saw some frost on the roof sheathing after a cold snap. Maybe I didn’t get the baffles lined up right? It’s tricky—you want to stop the drafts, but not turn your attic into a sauna. Anyone else feel like it’s a constant guessing game with these old houses?

Yeah, it’s a total balancing act. I’ve had similar issues—our attic’s got those old-school vents and I always worry I’m messing with the airflow too much when I seal things up. Did you check if your soffit vents are clear? Sometimes insulation gets pushed over them and that messes everything up. I still get frost on the nails some years, even after adding baffles. Maybe it’s just the way these older houses breathe... or don’t.

Man, I feel you on the old house quirks. I thought adding baffles would be the magic fix too, but nope—still get a bit of frost here and there. Sometimes I wonder if these houses just have their own stubborn way of doing things, no matter what you try. At least you’re keeping an eye on it... that’s half the battle with these older places.

- Couldn’t agree more.
- Tried baffles, extra insulation, even those heated cables—still get ice dams on the north side.
- Old plaster walls seem to leak heat in weird spots.
- Honestly, I think some drafts are just baked in from a century ago...
- At least I’m not alone fighting the “quirks.”

That’s the thing with these old houses—sometimes you chase a draft and it pops up somewhere else. Have you checked for air leaks around attic hatches or old chimney chases? Those spots get missed a lot. Curious if anyone’s tried dense-pack cellulose in the walls to help with those weird heat leaks?
