Had Empire do a reroof for us about two years back—old asphalt shingles, mid-sized house, nothing fancy. They were pretty straightforward, showed up when they said they would, and the crew worked fast. I will say, the noise was something else... my dog was not a fan. Price-wise, they landed somewhere in the middle of the quotes we got, but I did appreciate that they didn’t try to upsell us on stuff we didn’t need.

One thing I wish I’d pushed harder on: I wanted to go with a more eco-friendly shingle, maybe even metal, but they seemed more comfortable sticking to standard options. Ended up settling for a higher-rated asphalt shingle, which is fine, but I still wonder if I missed a chance to go greener. No leaks so far, even after some rough storms, so that’s a plus.

If you’re looking for someone open to alternative materials or green roofing, you might have to nudge them a bit. Otherwise, solid work and no headaches on my end.

Interesting to hear about the eco-friendly options, or lack thereof. I actually called Empire for a quote last year when my neighbor was getting their roof done (also by them). They seemed pretty no-nonsense on the phone, but when I asked about metal or solar shingles, the estimator kind of brushed it off and steered me back to asphalt. Maybe they just don’t do much of that around here?

I ended up going with another company because I wanted to try a white “cool roof” shingle for the heat, and Empire didn’t seem super familiar with it. My neighbor’s roof looks good though—no issues after a couple big storms, and he said the crew cleaned up well.

Noise is definitely a thing... I work from home and it was like living inside a drum for two days. Not sure there’s any way around that unless you can escape somewhere else while they work.

That’s interesting—they did something similar when I asked about impact-resistant shingles. I got the sense they mostly stick to what they know, which seems to be standard asphalt. Maybe it’s just not worth it for them to branch out, or maybe there’s not enough demand in Orlando for the more specialized stuff? I was hoping to get more info on solar options too, but it felt like they weren’t really interested.

The noise is no joke. I had to take calls from my car for a day and a half. I guess there’s not much you can do about that unless you’re able to leave the house. I did appreciate how fast they worked, though—my neighbor’s roof was done in less than two days, and the cleanup was surprisingly thorough.

I’m still weighing whether to go with a “cool roof” shingle myself. The heat here is brutal, and I’ve read that lighter colors can help with attic temps, but it’s hard to find contractors who are familiar with those products. Seems like the industry here is slow to adopt new materials.

I tried to ask about solar shingles too and got the same glazed-over look. It’s like they’ve got asphalt on the brain and nothing else exists. I get that it’s the “safe bet,” but man, with this Florida sun, you’d think cool roof options would be more popular. The noise was wild—my dog spent the whole day under the bed. At least they were quick about it, I’ll give them that. Still wish there were more choices around here.
